Screen printing is used commonly on textiles, such as t-shirts, bags, sweatshirts, work wear etc. This method is best suited to cover large, flat surfaces. If done correctly, screen printed designs are resistant to wear and laundering. They are also quite cheap when ordered in bulk. Screen printing involves pushing paint through exposed moulds (sieves) using a squeegee (manual or automatic). The sieves are in turn installed in a screen printing carousel.
A significant characteristic of screen printing is that a greater thickness of the ink can be applied to the substrate than is possible with other printing techniques. This allows for some very interesting effects that are not possible using other printing methods. Because of the simplicity of the application process, a wider range of inks and dyes are available for use in screen printing than for use in any other printing process. With this method, you can also achieve any color required. Special software will calculate amount of pigments needed to achieve it. However keep in mind that more colors you have – the higher price of your print.
Screen printing is quite demanding, especially when it comes to the time it takes to properly prepare the individual details that comprise: film printing, screening – action that is performed for each color, preparation of adequate Paint, placing on the rotary sieve and transferring paint to the material.
Price estimation for screen printing is always individual, and it is influenced by many different factors. The first one is the overlay. Another dimension that determines the final price of this type of print is the dimensions of the print. It is also important to have one print design for at least 30 pieces of clothes, but the choice of clothes in different colors does not affect the price (as long as the design colors remain the same). Those who plan to print on a really large scale, while retaining high quality should choose the screen printing technique.
Silk-screened clothing does not require special washing requirements. The paint will not go out of clothes even after washing in 50 degrees.
In order to get an ok price for screen print, at least 30 pieces are needed and good price will start from 50 and 100+ pieces. Making 1 piece t-shirt with this method makes absolutely no sense, as just moulds setup will cost you 150 DKK (that is without t shirt and printing cost, JUST SETUP!!).
